Wendover Chamber of Trade and Commerce

Wendover Chamber of Trade and Commerce was set up to encourage and support the local business community.  The committee has representatives from both retail and commerce and meets approximately monthly.  We send information by email and we have open meetings three or four times a year to make sure that everyone is kept informed at all times.

It was the Chamber working with local businesses and Wendover Parish Council which organised and funded the fantastic flag and flower displays in central Wendover which made a beautiful backdrop to the summer celebrations of 2012.  The union flags are now used by Wendover Parish Council to mark events of national significance. In 2013 and 2014 Wendover Parish Council put up the hanging baskets again.

At Christmas, WCTC always tries to work with Wendover Parish Council to make Wendover festive and attractive to shoppers.  This usually revolves around a Christmas Lights Switch On event. In 2012 this included a mini-music festival throughout the 4-8pm period on Wednesday 5 December 2012. A similar Festival happened on Wednesday 4 December 2013 when the Wendover Christmas Tree became a Florence Nightingale Tree of Light. Wendover Parish Council organised this event on Wednesday 3 December with support from WCTC.

In the background, the Chamber is represented at the local HS2 forums and has been instrumental in getting hard data for future compensation claims.

On 14 February 2013 WCTC launched a loyalty card scheme called I love Wendover for our members to attract customers to Wendover for all types of business.  Details (including a list of members) can be found at www.wendoverloyaltycard.com .

Most recently, WCTC worked with Wendover Parish Council and the Wendover Society to maximise the number of bank opening days in Wendover after Lloyds Bank declared that it would only open on two days a week from 1 June 2015. Both online and paper petitions were organised with over 1000 signatures collected. Lloyds bowed to local pressure and the Bank now remains open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 09:30 - 14:30.
