Get fit and have fun - join a  BBOWT activity

This is a great month for getting active out of doors so how about helping at one of our nature reserve work parties? We meet at Dancersend on Sunday 8 October, on Bacombe Hill on Thursday 12 October and at Weston Turville Reservoir on Thursday 26 October. No previous experience is required - we specialise in on the job training in a sociable and relaxed atmosphere.

If you'd like to hear more about conservation a little further afield please book online at and join us on a walk from Coombe Hill to Grangelands on Wednesday 18 October led by BBOWT's Kate Sheard.

And if you'd like to get back to basics and understand how the hills we so much enjoy were actually formed, come along on Tuesday 17 October to a talk by local expert and enthusiast Jill Eyers on 'The Making of the Chilterns.' This will be at 7.45pm at Gt Missenden Memorial Centre, admission £3 including refreshments. Details are on or ask for an event programme.

Your Local  Nature Reserves Need YOU!

November is a great month to get stuck into conservation work with the Bucks, Beds and Oxon Wildlife Trust. You don't need any experience and we'll teach you new skills in a friendly and sociable atmosphere - it's no more than 'rough gardening' really - so you get the benefit of healthy outdoors exercise plus the knowledge that you are doing something useful for the environment. There are work parties on Bacombe Hill at 10am on Thursday 9 November and at Weston Turville Reservoir at 10am on Thursday 30 November. For either occasion you can sign up for a taster session or get more details by calling Stacey Hewitt at BBOWT's College Lake Reserve on 01442 826774 or emailing

For something more leisurely, BBOWT has a talk on the reintroduction of beavers in the UK at 7.45pm on Tuesday 21 November at Gt Missenden Memorial Centre, or a walk looking at the history and wildlife of Weston Turville at 10.30am on Saturday 25 November  (please book online at
