A former Armed Forces Day volunteer who has already signed up to be part of this year's event because it was such an "honourable and rewarding" experience, is urging people across Buckinghamshire to get involved!

Tyrone Weeks (aged 18) from Aylesbury who volunteered in 2013 couldn't wait to sign up to volunteer for this year's Armed Forces Day, taking place at Aylesbury Rugby Club on Saturday, June 27 from 1pm to 7pm.

With something on offer for all the family from fairground rides to stalls and performances by local groups and singers, the event combines music with military tributes and air displays to raise awareness of the work of service personnel.

Tyrone said: "I would say that Armed Forces Day is a chance for everyone to show their support and gratitude for all the men and women in the Armed Forces, from serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets.

"I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a volunteer as I got to meet lots of different people out of the 10,000 who attended, made new friends and experienced lots of different things from the red arrows fly past to the local cadets show. I had such a great time, which is why I've signed up to do it all over again!"

Anyone who can donate either some or all of their time over Armed the weekend are being encouraged to sign up on our website www.buckscc.gov.uk/armedforcesvolunteers

We are particularly keen to hear from people who can help with the set up of the event on Friday (26 June) and/or the clear-up on Sunday (28 June).

In return, you will be provided with free entry, a food voucher, access to refreshments and a volunteering t-shirt (which must be worn on the day, but can be kept as a souvenir). You will also receive time credits which can be converted and used at various attractions and leisure activities.

Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, Lord Lieutenant for Buckinghamshire said: "This is a great opportunity to be involved in a big family fun day event, make new friends, develop new skills and boost your CV whilst getting involved with the local community.

"It promises to be a fantastic day and we would love to see everyone enjoying themselves, so I want to encourage as many people as possible to be part of this special day."
