Three Aylesbury College Sports students will be featured on official posters for #ThisGirlCan, a national campaign developed by Sport England celebrating active women and aimed at increasing activity levels and sports participation of women and girls.

As part of the campaign the #ThisGirlCan app encouraged users to submit their own posters and photos, and a poster featuring three Aylesbury College students has been chosen to feature as part of the official campaign. The poster will feature on advertising screens in the Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe, as well as on large screens in shopping centres nationwide.

Students Vicki, Hayley and Madie are delighted. Madie Rowland, who received the College Community award at Aylesbury College’s recent student awards ceremony said: “I’m really excited that our poster has been chosen. I’ve loved all the sporting activities I’ve been involved with at College this year, including running a lunchtime Boxercise club since Christmas. I think #ThisGirlCan is a great way to inspire young women like me to enjoy a more active lifestyle, and the College really supports this.”

Fiona Morey, Vice Principal at Aylesbury College said: “I’m really pleased that some of our students will be featured on the #ThisGirlCan posters. We have done a lot of work this year to increase sports activities available across College. We believe it’s really important for our students to get active and get involved with lunchtime clubs and activities like Madie’s Boxercise club – it’s great for health and wellbeing, but also it’s a great motivator and teaches important skills like teamwork.”

Since the launch of #ThisGirlCan, Aylesbury College has seen an increase in female participants in lunchtime and after-class sports clubs, and runs a selection of female-only sports clubs, including football, yoga and boxing.
