Buckinghamshire's energy from waste plant wins top industry award

Greatmoor energy from waste plant, which formally opened in October 2016, has just won the Award for Excellence in the Design of a Waste Management Facility in the 2017 Awards for Excellence on Recycling and Waste Management, one of the industry's most prestigious award ceremonies.

Representatives of the FCC Environment and Buckinghamshire County Council partnership team collected the award at a ceremony last Thursday (May 18) at London's Landmark Hotel. The Greatmoor plant was recognised for its innovation in design, with the criteria for selection looking at how technology, equipment and building design can be used to enhance efficiency while minimising the impact on the environment.

The Greatmoor plant is part of the energy from waste infrastructure developed for Buckinghamshire as part of a 30-year partnership between Buckinghamshire County Council and FCC Environment. The energy from waste process takes the non-recyclable 'residual' waste from around the county - which used to go to landfill - and uses it to generate electricity at Greatmoor.

Cllr Bill Chapple OBE, Buckinghamshire County Council Cabinet Member for Planning & Environment, said: "This award showcases the quality of design at Greatmoor, and is evidence of the care and dedication that has been brought to the development of our whole energy from waste process by the teams from the County Council and FCC Environment. Well done to all involved."

Paul Taylor, FCC Environment Chief Executive, said: "I'd like to congratulate the partnership team from Buckinghamshire County Council and FCC Environment for all their hard work which has been recognised with this award. We're delighted that the unique design of Greatmoor ,which lets it fit so well into its surroundings without compromising its efficiency, has received this top accolade."
