In order to promote the Chilterns Buildings Design Guide, as well as good practice and excellence in design of new buildings in the AONB, an Annual Buildings Design Awards competition is held.

This is organised jointly with The Chiltern Society and entries are invited from within the AONB as well as the wider Chiltern Society area. A wide range of building projects are eligible: new builds, extensions, restorations and renovations. The type of property that can be nominated is also broad: houses, workplaces, public buildings, farm buildings, bridges and more are all considered. The project must have been completed within the last three years.

Entries are encouraged from architects, builders, planners and the public. They can be submitted at any time; the deadline in any particular year is March 1st. The judges visit shortlisted entries and awards are given out at a special event that takes place early in the summer.
