The unsung heroes of Buckinghamshire, who quietly volunteer and serve the community, received a warm tribute by County Council Chairman Zahir Mohammed at a special civic church service on Sunday (April 19).

In front of more than 100 guests from the public, private and voluntary sector the Chairman paid tribute to the thousands 'who provide services for others and all those who give of their time in voluntary work'.

The Chairman had made community service and volunteering the theme of his church service in St Mary's, Princes Risborough, and a collection of £472 from the congregation was divided equally between St Mary's Church and Heart of Bucks (formerly Buckinghamshire Community Foundation).

He also publicly thanked people who work with young people in schools, and who enable the county's frail and disabled people to live life with dignity.

And as the county's Armed Forces Champion, he paid tribute to Buckinghamshire's Service personnel serving around the world.

During the service former Wycombe High School student Charlotte Nohavicka performed Gounod's Ave Maria, and Pie Jesu from Fauré's Requiem.
