German Prisoners of War?

Wendover News reader Richard Chappell (Icknield Close) has found a concrete silt drain in his garden. These words were cut into the concrete before it dried: "Remember POWs Enricky Bergmann and Karl heins schuts 1947". It would appear that it is a flood defence built in response to a bad flood in 1947. Does anyone know any more?
