HS2 Update for November 2012

  |  Published: Oct 29th 2012

Wendover HS2 (WHS2) has written to the new Secretary of State asking for a meeting where he could explain the HS2 policy. The letter is on the WHS2 site. As yet, no response but he has been busy since DfT got its sums on the West Coast Main Line so wrong! On HS2, conservatives now seem to have a "one motion" policy.

HS2 is seeking property access to at least 20 sites in Wendover, and has sent out a third batch of letters. If you wish to discuss this, contact Antony Chapman, details below.

The next Community Forum is 13 November. These futile events are superficial with a paucity of detail. WHS2 technical experts disagree strongly with the number-free noise presentation made last time. Very worrying is the need for multiple construction camps to hack out and cover the Wendover "green tunnel". Wendover HS2 raised this issue with HS2 Ltd at the first of a series of meetings with them on 17 October. A better option is a full bored Chiltern tunnel; this is being pursued. Politically and economically a tunnel should not be more expensive than the alternatives.

Judicial review is in December, but whoever loses will almost certainly appeal, so more funding may be needed in 2013. The Northern announcement has yet to be made - this year even? Compensation consultation also seems to have slipped badly.

To help to save Wendover, why not make a small monthly donation? Even £5 a month will help, in favour of Wendover HS2 at Lloyds TSB, Sort Code 30-90-38, Number 30265860, or ask us for a form. It's all spent on the campaign.
