LGBT communities invited to find out more about fostering

On Wednesday 8 March we are holding a Fostering Information Session at the Aylesbury Multicultural Centre specifically for people from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

Foster carers come from all sorts of backgrounds so don’t be put off finding out more because you think you won’t be eligible if it is something you are genuinely interested in.

With more than 450 children looked after in Buckinghamshire, we are in constant need for people to come forward as foster carers, whatever your age, sexuality or employment status. All you need is the desire to help give a child or young person a fresh start and a spare room in your home.

At the session on 8 March you can find out more about what fostering involves and about the process of becoming a foster carer. You will have the chance to talk to existing foster carers and members of our fostering team and ask any questions you may have.

Lin Hazell, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “These sessions are an ideal way for anyone curious about fostering to find out more about the whole process. We want to encourage people from all backgrounds to come forward. It’s not about who you are, where you live or what you do, it’s about wanting to help and support a child or young person in need. Fostering is such a rewarding experience for everyone involved and there is plenty of training and support available so you are always close to help and advice if needed.”

The information session takes place at the Aylesbury Multicultural Centre, Friarscroft Way, Aylesbury, HP20 2TE on Wednesday 8 March from 7 to 9pm.
