Members gear up to buy Mentmore Golf & Country Club

Mentmore Golf & Country Club, which unfortunately closed its gates early June, is looking for a new owner and the members - led by Captains Martin Cowling and Anne Bridges - are keen to take ownership.

Several hundred members and around 50 employees heard the news that Mentmore Golf & Country Club, which is located between Aylesbury and Leighton Buzzard, had ceased trading due to financial difficulties on Sunday 7 June.

A members bid to buy-out the club is currently being formed.

Mens Captain Martin Cowling says, ‘Grant Thornton have been appointed to seek a buyer for the club and we have had numerous enquiries from our members, who are supportive of a members buy-out.  The timescales are very tight, but we have some real momentum behind us and we are determined to put a compelling case together.’

Ladies captain Anne Bridges, who has been instrumental in keeping the strong ladies contingent together despite the closure, is equally keen and has the backing of many members who are keen to get the club into new ownership after several years of underinvestment.  Anne says, ' The support from our membership base has been overwhelming and there is a real determination to get the club open again. We believe we can be a real force for good, with members having a say in how the club is to be run and controlled. Our Health & Fitness members seem just as keen as our golfers, and we really want to ensure that the club is in safe hands in the future.’

Further news can be expected in the next few weeks. In the meantime, further information can be found at
