Imaginations Set Free with New Children's Shows in Aylesbury Waterside Theatre's Second Space

  |  Published: Jan 26th 2015

As part of Aylesbury Waterside Theatre’s commitment to accessible shows for all ages, the Spring season sees a programme of brand new family theatre in the venue’s Second Space.

The fun kicks off with Curious presented by Half Moon Theatre Wed 4 Feb; a show specifically devised to appeal to ages 0-3. The production offers a journey into a playfully imaginative world where kitchen meets garden, where dirt is good and where messiness mischievously conjures the perfect birthday surprise. A play with few words, Curious is a laugh-out-loud experience for the very young and the curiously inquisitive.  At the end of the performance, children are invited onto the stage to create their own recipes, by digging in soft, moist soil, and for the duration of the show traditional theatre seating is swapped for comfy cushions to make the young audience’s first experience of theatre one that is in a unintimidating, friendly environment.

Award-winning musical improvisers The Showstoppers take to the Second Space for half term fun Fri 20 Feb with The Fantastical Story Factory. Suitable for 6+ the show relies on the audience to make up the stories. Explore magical kingdoms, meet wonderful characters and be prepared to be singing along by the end in this fun-filled treat where no show is the same. With audience members responsible for where the story’s set, what happens and who the characters are, this is a can’t-miss piece of entertainment that’s funny, silly and ridiculous, and you can be part of it!

For an uplifting story about co-operation, friendship and overcoming fears, Up in the Attic Sat 21 Mar is the answer. A magical, melodious, interactive tale is created through enchanting music and puppetry for ages 3 to 6. A trip into the attic leads to a discovery of delights and secrets hidden inside as they’re taken on a rollercoaster ride full of story, song and surprise.

Rubba-Dubba-Giggle, Rubba-Dubba-Laugh, there’s magic to be found in the Big Red Bath on Sat 18 Apr. This quirky, vibrant and humorous adaptation of Julia Jarman and Adrian Reynolds’ popular children’s picture book will appeal to families, as it blends music, song and humorous character based performances in a unique new take on this well-loved book. Enjoy a bubbly, barmy bath time adventure around the world (and home again!) celebrating all things bath time. A splish - splashing show suitable for 2 – 5 year olds.
