Taxi Tokens

  |  Published: Apr 30th 2014

AVDC is again the only district council in Buckinghamshire offering the taxi token scheme in 2014/15.  This great news means that from the 1st April 2014 we can, again, provide a beneficial lifeline for those most in need.

The budget for this service is limited and means that much scrutiny may be applied to applications to ensure that those with most need benefit from the scheme. Once the funding has run out, there will be no more until the service is reviewed for the 2015/16 financial year.

Eligible people may apply for £90 of travel tokens instead of a bus permit. If you apply later in the year, from the 1st October you may obtain £45 of tokens dependent on funding still being available. This can not be taken in addition to any tokens received in the first half of the year. The tokens are issued to help people of pensionable age or people with disabilities make essential journeys. The scheme does not cover long journeys, excursions, or those who have access to their own private transport. You are eligible for tokens if you are:

  • resident within the Aylesbury Vale District Council area;
  • or live in a village or area listed

and

  • you cannot use buses because of disability or frailty – either because you are unable to board a bus or because you are unable to walk to or from a bus stop at either end of the journey.

or

  • you have a disability as defined by the Disability Discrimination Act.

AVDC will check your proof of your eligibility and address. In the case of disability, we need you to post in proof of your disability with your application.

Private transport

You will not be eligible for taxi tokens if you or somebody in your immediate household owns and maintains a car, and has a valid driver’s license. However, this is at the discretion of the Senior Licensing Officer, who may, based on supporting information, allow the provision of tokens in some circumstances.

Once the application form is received and a decision made, your tokens will be made available and can be either collected from The Gateway office or delivered to you. We will attempt to deliver your tokens within 14 days of receipt of application to any location within the Vale.
