Tims Dairy Celebrate 65 Years of Yogurt Making 1949-2014

Tims Dairy was founded in London in 1949 by the uncle of the current owners, Euripides Nicolaou, who was then joined by their father, Michael Timotheou. The first production facility was in Riding House Street in London’s West End in 1949 where the founders brought together all their considerable skill and expertise in recreating the fresh and vibrant tastes of Cypriot produce for a post war London.

 

Michael and Euripides were true visionaries who anticipated the love we have now for all the delicious offerings of the Mediterranean diet.

In 1960 the dairy moved to Camden in north London where brothers Chris and Peter remember 5 gallon milk churns being delivered to the doorstep when everyone else just had bottles! In 1996 Tims Dairy moved to its current site, a former dairy in Denham Lane, Chalfont St Peter in Buckinghamshire in the beautiful Chiltern Hills. From here they continue to produce a multi award winning retail and foodservice range of Greek style, wholemilk and low fat yogurts and cultured creams using just fresh natural ingredients and British milk and cream in full support of UK farmers.

They have also launched a fascinating insight into the Dairy history on the website with a lovely commemorative recipe, Greco Rosa Crema, which was served as a dessert at their family table and became one of their first retail products.

 

Tims Dairy’s current retail yogurt range was launched in April 2009 and includes Greek Style, wholemilk and low fat yogurts in fruit and natural flavours. The inspiration for the concept came from consumers who wrote in to the dairy to ask where the fabulous tasting yogurt from the Tims Dairy foodservice range that they had been eating in hotels, schools and hospitals, was available. In the end the pressure was so great that the Directors of the firm decided to launch the current retail brand. The range is widely available in independent retail outlets, farm shops, delicatessens and supermarkets, including selected Asda and Waitrose branches, Whole Foods Market, selected Budgens stores and online at Ocado.
