Wendover ARP Members Identified

  |  Published: Oct 15th 2013

Nick Richardson advises that the photo appears in ‘The New History of Wendover 1972’ on page 58.  The book was published in conjunction with an exhibition about Wendover and many of the illustrations appear to have been copies of documents displayed at the time.  Most in the group are named but the reproduction of the original hand written caption is poor. I have done my best to transcribe the names.

Update September 2017:

Reader Kevin Standage contacted Wendover News in September 2017 with the information below.

Victor Leonard Rance (Wendover coal merchant) was the brother of my Great Grandfather. His grandson (Vic Rance) lives in Prestwood (where I grew up, and my father still lives!).

The Rance family home during this time was Road Barn Farm, which is on the right just before you get to the roundabout for the bypass coming from Great Missenden. A Rance descendant still lives there, but it's destined to be flattened for HS2.

Although it's a really small photo, I'm pretty certain the two Rances are :

Far Left :

Evelyn Augusta Rance (b.1908 d.1982)

Next in:

Annie Dorothy (Dot) Rance (b.1906 d.1966)

Both never married, and are daughters of Joseph Rance and Lucy Rance (nee Bliss), my great grandparents. Joseph Rance was brother to Victor the coal merchant.
