Local Face: Dr Colin Campbell MBE

Colin and Daphne Campbell were featured as Local Faces in the February 2010 print edition of Wendover News, pages 14-15 click here. This brief update is called for because Colin was awarded the MBE in the recent New Years Honours, an event which cannot pass without a mention.

The honour came as a complete surprise to Colin and the citation mentions only service to Waddesdon. Colin and Daphne moved to Waddesdon in 1960 where he worked as a GP and she supported him in the single handed practice it was then. He soon became governor to the local Waddesdon Secondary School. The painting shown left, painted by Peter Keegan, website click here, was “presented to Dr Colin Campbell in recognition of 50 years of service as Governor of Waddesdon Church of England School”. Both photos were taken by daughter Fiona Campbell website click here.

On retirement, Colin and Daphne moved to Wendover, arriving here in 1991. They immediately became an active part of Wendover life, a fact recognised by the Local Face article in 2010. They are still active members of U3A and WI but their volunteering days at Florence Nightingale Hospice Shop have come to an end. Daphne finished a few years ago but Colin was able to continue until the end of August 2014.

Many local friends contacted Wendover News to ensure that the new honour was noted in these pages. Wendover News hereby adds congratulations to the many already received.

The Campbell Family is preparing to go to Windsor Castle in March for the Investiture. Colin and Daphne can take two others to the investiture: two from their 5 daughters and/or 10 grandchildren?
